Badlands National Park, SD
Could you navigate the Norbeck Pass like the Native Indians, explorers, and settlers did? On a trip to Yellowstone, I took this photo of one of the highest points in the park. This shot was an eleven-shot panorama taken from a panorama point. The area is a common hangout for bighorn sheep, and though the formations appear to look soft and sandy, they are actually solid stone. While I was attempting this shot, I had to break out a graduated filter to help knock down the brightness of the rocks due to the high, unforgiving sun. Although I captured this image in September of 2012, I can imagine surveying the same exact formations as an 1890s explorer. I was happy to be able to walk back to my car, and not a horse and wagon.
